Given the rise of the city today, when time seems to pass more quickly and everything changes more and more quickly, and when Caracas are already
counted by millions, the author wanted to collect the history of names: why is it called such a site in this or that way, what event or character
has remained forever reflected in the memory of a corner. The author emphasizes the corner. Then, perhaps, of the Avila, the most Caracas of Caracas
are the names of its corners. There is no city in the world that does not have one or another name with a picturesque name, but I doubt that there
is any that presents this special feature of Caracas, that all its corners have their own name, so rooted in the mind of its people
(at least up to now, because Caracas has already acquired another dimension) that for generations has been ignored the official nomenclature,
to refer the addresses exclusively by the names of the corners: from Manduca to Ferrenquín, such number. What, for strangers, is something absurd
or an eccentricity, but the people of Caracas have always placed us, just in front of the gate - or the fence - so indicated. Counselor Miguel María
Lisboa, Chargé d'Affaires of Brazil in Venezuela, wrote in 1852 that the system of street addresses, although it was completely new, and at first
could cause confusion to a foreigner, was perfectly understood by its inhabitants, and It was even comfortable, once the custom was acquired.
